About the author

Emmanuel Hocquard is is a leading figure in contemporary French poetry. He was born in Cannes in 1940 and grew up in Tangiers. During the 1970s and 1980s he edited, with Raquel, Orange Export Ltd, a significant small press devoted to contemporary poetry. He also curated the the reading series Section Poésies at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; he also directed the Program in Literature and Translation for the Fondation Royaumont, and Un bureau sur l'Atlantique, a foundation whose aim is to encourage realtions between French and American poets. he has also translated the poetry of Charles Reznikoff, Paul Auster, Antonio Cisneros, Fernando Pessoa, John Taggart, Benjamin Hollander, Michael Palmer, and many others.

Most of his own work is published by Editions POL in Paris, including Un privé en Tanger, Les élégies, Théorie des tables, and the novel Aerea dans les forêts de Manhattan, which was awarded the Prix France-Culture. Much of his work has been translated and published in the USA.
