About the author
Karine Martel was born in France in 1968, has lived in Australia, Thailand and Indonesia, and is now based in Paris. Trained as a classical dancer, she studied philosophy after suffering a serious accident. She has two children.
She published her first collection of poems, Textures, in 2001 and followed this with two further collections Franchir la peau and Poème pour un marin, both in 2004. Each of these books also features the work of the photographer, Vincent Hart. In 2004, her first novel Après appeared. All of her work is published by Éditions Caractères, Paris.
Other work: a collection of ten poems on ten Sébastien Mayor sculptures appeared in December 2005, and a book written jointly with Arjen Duinker, Et cela? L’infini, was published by Querido, Amsterdam in January 2006. Karine Martel is also working on a novel, Les recluses, and another collection of poems, Les cerfs-volants, the latter again with the collaboration of Vincent Hart.
