About the author
Mervyn Taylor is a Trinidad-born poet who divides his time
between Brooklyn, New York and his island home. He has taught at Bronx Community
College, The New School,
and in the New York City public school system. He has read his poems to diverse
audiences, and his work has appeared in such journals as Poetry International,
American Letters & Commentary, The Same, St. Ann's Review, Sulfur,
Rattapallax, and in the recent anthologies Chance of A Ghost and The
American Voice in Poetry. He is the author of three previous volumes of
poetry, An
Island of His Own, The Goat, and Gone Away, all from
Junction Press, New York. He can be heard reading his poetry on the CD, Road
Clear, accompanied
by bassist David Williams.
About Taylor's poems Derek Walcott has observed, "The sense of search, of the avoidance of flash, mutes his meters to an admirable degree, and the tone, which he found remarkably early, keeps him separate and unique."
