you gave us an ode

celebrated his metaphors
about melons
thought about my own
metaphors for melons
and how they have
transformed over the years –
soft and hard and so on

you show this to nobody
which seems the right decision
as the potential for directness
could be destroyed
makes you self-conscious
nevertheless –
knowing this is a promise
to yourself –
is this egocentric?
