I first met Richard way back in 1985 at the International Poetry Gathering Il Minatore (The Miner) in Gonnesa, Sardinia. I was then only 18 years old. Compared with the other participant poets, I was young and immature. Richard was immediately protective. He recognised my talent and encouraged me with valuable advice for my artistic growth. Over time, we have kept in touch. I have had the honour of translating several of his poems, which have appeared in print and online, and have received his help in translating some of my own compositions into English. I wish a long life to a tireless and precious friend who has made poetry his raison d’être.
